TENERIFE SHORTS 2016 Award-Winners
The Dutch short film Import, by the Bosnian filmmaker Ena Sendijarevic has won the ‘Best International Short Film Award’ after the Tenerife Shorts’ jury deliberation, in a closing gala that took place on Sunday, 11th of September, at 19.00 hours at the Guimerá Theatre. The fiction work lasting 17 minutes was one of the 9 releases in Spain offered by the international competitive section of the festival. After a large deliberation, the members of the jury unanimously appreciated «the sensitivity of Import which depicts the consequences of a socio-political conflict through the means of quotidian situations».
Import has achieved one of the trophies designed by the architect and filmmaker from Gran Canaria Rafael Navarro along with the prize consisting in 500 Euros, after being screened among 23 works from all over the world. The winner illustrates an autobiographical story about one young Bosnian refugee family who ends up in a small village in the Netherlands after getting a residence permit in 1994. Absurd situations arise as they are trying to make this new world their home.
The audience award went to the Spanish short film Timecode, directed by the Catalan director Juanjo Giménez. This way, the audience recognises the value of the fabulous winner of Palme d’Or, which is the second Spanish winner of this award, 50 years after Luis Buñuel’s Viridiana. Timecode, a 15 minutes work tells the story of Luna and Diego. Both are the parking lot security guards. Diego does the night shift, and Luna works by day.
The trophy of the Canary Competition went to Juana, co-directed by the two documentary filmmakers from Tenerife Miguel G. Morales and Silvia Navarro.
Apart from the closing ceremony, the audience could enjoy the screening of Mañana vendrá la bala andVoor Film. The first one is a Spanish short film directed by Gabriel Azorín. Voor Film is an experimental short film directed by the Dutch director Douwe Dijkstra. The jury of this edition was composed by the actress and journalist from Tenerife Verónica Galán; Franziska Münz, coordinator of cinema and music events in the cultural department of Goethe-Institut Madrid, as well as the architect and filmmaker from Gran Canaria Rafael Navarro Miñón. TENERIFE SHORTS 2016 Palmarés
El cortometraje holandés Import (Importación), realizado por la cineasta bosnia Ena Sendijarevic, consiguió alzarse con el premio del jurado de Tenerife Shorts, en una ceremonia de clausura que tuvo lugar domingo, a las 19,00 horas, en el Teatro Guimerá de la capital tinerfeña. La cinta, de 17 minutos de ficción, fue uno de los nueve estrenos en España que ofreció la agenda competitiva del festival tinerfeño. La realizadora bosnia, afincada en Holanda, consigue así alzarse con el premio del un jurado que falló a favor de Import ya que ha valorado «la sensibilidad con la que dibuja las consecuencias de un conflicto social a través de situaciones cotidianas».
Import, que consigue uno de los trofeos diseñados por el arquitecto y cineasta grancanario Rafael Navarro, además de un premio en metálico de 500 euros, se impuso entre las veintitrés películas que, llegadas de todo el mundo, compitieron durante este fin de semana en el Teatro Guimerá. La cinta ganadora narra la historia autobiográfica de la familia de la propia autora, una joven familia de refugiados bosnios que llega a un pueblecito de los Países Bajos tras conseguir el permiso de residencia en 1994. Surgen situaciones absurdas a medida que tratan de convertir ese nuevo mundo en su hogar.
El premio del público, a su vez, recayó en el cortometraje español Timecode, del realizador catalán Juanjo Giménez. Así, el público tinerfeño premia a la flamante ganadora de la Palma de Oro de Cannes, segunda película que consigue este galardón, 50 años después de que Luis Buñuel obtuviese la primera Palma de Oro para España con Viridiana. Timecode, cinta de ficción de 15 minutos, narra la historia de Luna y Diego. Ambos son los guardias de seguridad del parking. Diego hace el turno de noche y Luna de día.
El premio de la competición canaria Canary Shorts fue para la película Juana, codirigida por los documentalistas tinerfeños Miguel G. Morales y Silvia Navarro.
El público asistente pudo disfrutar además de la proyección de las películas Mañana vendrá la bala y Voor Film. La primera, pieza española realizada por Gabriel Azorín. Voor Film (Película secundaria), a su vez, es un documental experimental realizado por el holandés Douwe Dijkstra. El jurado de esta edición lo conformó la actriz y periodista tinerfeña Verónica Galán; Franziska Münz, coordinadora de cine y música del departamento de programación cultural del Goethe-Institut Madrid; así como el arquitecto y cineasta grancanario Rafael Navarro Miñón.
